This is an example of a situation where a Beech tree (Fagus sylvatica) is outgrowing its environment. The tree has been pruned on at least several occasions during its lifespan and in recent years has had a T.P.O. applied to preserve its amenity value.
To begin with, there was some opposition from the Tree Officer as he felt a crown reduction would adversely affect a prominent feature tree. After some persuasion, it was agreed that we would carry out a sensitive crown reduction of approximately 3 meters all-round and lift the canopy to 5 meters. This was seen as a reasonable compromise which satisfied both parties.
