This large mature veteran oak tree (Quercus robur) was showing signs of fungal decay in and around the base and buttress roots (in this case the decay was caused by Gymnopus fusipes).
Works carried out included the removal of deadwood, but more importantly, we reduced the large scaffold limbs by approximately 20%, reducing the weight of the tree and the effects of wind loading.
These works improved the structural stability of the oak and therefore increased its useful life expectancy.
